German Cities - Stuttgart

Stuttgart: A Stronghold of Southern Germany
With just over 500,000 inhabitants, Stuttgart stands proudly in southern
Germany, a beacon to visitors from around the globe. As the sixth largest city in the country with wonders and tourist hotspots around every corner, you won’t be disappointed if you choose to spend your entire Germany vacation here.

Located near the famous Black Forest, Stuttgart sits smack dab in the middle of fertile soils which give life to the many vineyards that have sprung up over the years. Consequently, visitors can enjoy a plethora of wines from the region; in fact, you may just want to ship some home from this “Wurttemberg Wine Growing Area”, as it (along with a few other locales in the region) is known.

Stuttgart is home to a number of institutes of higher education as well as military bases; hence, due to the large population of both University students and Army individuals and families, Stuttgart’s nightlife is kept hopping. If you’re into the music scene, you can find dance clubs which
don’t close until the wee hours of the morning.

These are terrific places to hang out with both locals and other tourists while enjoying some Stuttgart brews and other potent potables. Even if you don’t speak “Deutsch”, you will find everyone warm and friendly.

Porsche, DaimlerChrysler, and Mercedes-Benz call Stuttgart home, thanks to its reputation as a technological center of commerce. Additionally, IBM and Hewlett-Packard have situated their European headquarters in this industrial hotbed. This means you’ll see many business professionals bustling around the city, making for a thriving infrastructure.

Getting around Stuttgart is a breeze, even for the traveler new to the European scene. A transit system (the “S-Bahn”) operates trains which are known for their efficiency and timeliness; thus, don’t be late because these trains run on a strict schedule. Fortunately, if you miss one, there is likely to be another within several minutes.

Or you can always choose to ride via taxi, or simply use your feet for locomotion. Like many cities throughout Germany, music is central to the heart of the city. Thus, Stuttgart’s opera house is a sight to behold. Make sure you bring plenty of film for your camera to capture every nook and cranny of this beautiful building. Another “must see” is the Stuttgart Palace Square, where you can find the King’s Building and City Art Museum. Take your time here – there is much to see and you don’t want to miss anything. There’s no need to rush; enjoy the ambiance of this well-maintained historical artifact.

If you’re bringing the family to Stuttgart, a trip to the Wilhelma Zoo will be a highlight of your trip. The nearby Botanical Garden will also delight
everyone, from youngsters to more mature guests.

And what would a visit to Stuttgart be without a trip to Ludwigsburg Palace?
As the biggest Baroque palace in Germany, this site is a mecca for those who are looking for architectural wonders. Again, bring along rolls of extra film and don’t be shy about snapping away.

Some of the other high points of Stuttgart include the Solitude Palace, Stuttgart Palace Square, and the U.S. Army Kelley Barracks. (Though the latter is not always open to most tourists.) Make sure you enjoy some fabulous German cuisine while here; what would a trip to Stuttgart be without some of the hearty meals, snacks, and desserts for which this European country is renowned? And, of course, a taste or two of wine is a necessity. Regardless of how you choose to spend your time while in Stuttgart, make no mistake; you’ll find plenty to do in and love about this gorgeous city. Click Here to Book Your Hotel in Stuttgart Germany
